CANTERBURY COLLEGE.

At the meeting of members of the Dialectical Society on aturday laßt, the Rev. T. Plavell in tho chair, there was a capital debate on the question, " Ia classical education at the present day overvalued ?" This was decided in the negative, though Professor Bickerton spoke strongly in favor of physical Bcience. During the discusaion it was argued that mental power can be attained quite as well, if not better, by atudying classics as by studying science, with the further advantage of gaining a fuller knowledge of human nature, as well as improving and perfecting the force and style of expression. Two of tho lady students made a bold stand for the good 'old way, and the debate throughout was animated and interesting. It ia proposed at the next meeting to discuss the respectivs merits of Lord Beaconsfield and Mr Gladstone.
