CHRISTCHURCH DEBATING SOCIETY
The meeting of the above, adjonmed from Friday, tne 2nd instant, was held last evening in Mr J. L. Fleming's Auction Eoom, Hereford street, when there was a fair attendance. In the unavoidable absence of Mr E. O. J. Stevens, M.H.E., the President, the chair was taken by Mr J. Whyte. The rules drawn up by the Provisional Committee were submitted to the meeting, and with a few amendments and alterations adopted. The following gentlemen were elected officers and committee of the society for the ensuing year :—Vice-Presi-dents: Messrs John Holmes and B. Dodson, sen.; committee: Messrs Kelsey, Eyan, Beavan, Townsend, Frost, Batchelor, and Griffiths; secretary, Mr J. E. O. Edwards, and treasurer Mr J. Whyte. Friday, 23rd inst. was appointed for the first meeting for discussion. After votes of thanks to Mr J. L. Fleming for the use of th> room, and to the chairman, the meeting separated.
