MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHEI3TOHUECH. Saturday, April 10. [Before G. L. Melliah, Esq., E.M.) Drunk and Disorderly. —A first offender was fined ss. Attempted Suicide. —Margaret Stanton, alias Charles, was charged with attempting to commit suicide. Constable Johnson stated that on the previous day, from the information ho had received, he went down to the bank of the Avon near the Government Buildings, where he found the prisoner, who expressed her determination of putting an end to her life by throwing herself in the river. As she persisted in her resolution, he had no alternative but to take her into custody. In her defence the accused said she was not intoxicated, but was suffering from domestic trouble, and was now very sorry for her rash conduct, which she promised not to repeat if permitted to go at large. On her daughter, who was in Court promising to look after her for the future, the accused was permitted to go at large. Vagrancy. —Frank Harris and Elixabeth Spring were charged under the Vagrant Act with having no lawful visible means of support. Mr Neck appeared on their behalf. The case was allowed to stand over until next Tuesday, both of the accused promising to sell their furniture and clear away from the city.
