NEW ZEALAND COUNTRY JOURNAL.
The March number of this extremely useful little publication fully sustains the reputation it has acquired. The contributions are, as heretofore, varied and interesting. Foremost amongst the continuous articles are the papers " The Chemistry of Manures," by M. Q-. Grey, and "Out In the Open." The first mentioned paper deals with the fertilizing requirements for gramineous, leguminous and root crops, and furnishes evidence that the author is thoroughly conversant with his subject. Mr. Potts' contribution is in his usual chatty vein, and commences with a dissertation on the Psittaoidce or parrot family, the life history of the kaka being described in a manner at once graphic and instructive. The valuable paper on the Clydesdale horse is concluded in this number. Mr. Armstrong'continues his history of the "Grasses," its practical utility commending itself to agricultural readers. " Oaveßson," as usual, furnishes his quota in the shape of a precis of racing matters since the last publication of the journal. The remainder of the number is made up with the usual farm and garden notes, stock and station reports, reviews of the wool, grain, and produce markets, queries and answers, correspondence,
