CANTERBURY FEMALE REFUGE.
The ordinary monthly meeting of committee was held on Ms«h 10th. Present, his Lordship the Primate (president), the Very the Dean, Messrs J. P. Jameson (treasurer), W. Pratt, G-. Bowron, H. W. Packer, and J. Aldred (secretary). The ladies' committee , reported that Mr A. J. White had presented to the Refuge the necessary fittings for the windows of the ironing room, and had sent a man to put them up. The treasurer reported a donation of five tins of kerosene from Messrs Acland and Campbell; also a cheque for £5 from a friend. The earnings of the inmates for the month were about £34 ; expenditure, £39 3s 3d. Number of inmates, 13 ; infants, 8. Dr. Ellis was appointed hon. medical officer to the institution. The treasurer and Mr Pratt were requested to meet a sub-committee of ladies at the Refuge re alterations for the rooeption of class B. The ladies' committee urgently recommended the putting up a small new work room for olass B. The committee having given due consideration to the matter, agreed to the recommendation. Rules carefully drawn up the ladies' committee, for the managfment of class B, were considered by the meeting, and adopted, subject to the further consideration of a few minor matters at next meeting. The ladies' committee advised the meeting that the Rev. Mr Pascoe had expressed his willingness to conduct a Bible class for the benefit of class B on Thursday evenings. The committee thankfully accepted Mr Pascoe'a offer.
