HARVEST THANKSGIVING SERVICES

Special festival services were held at St. Luke’s Church yesterday in thanksgiving for the plentiful harvest. The first service was a choral celebration of Holy Communion, at 8 a.m., the Rev the incumbent The music consisted entirely of ancient plainsong melodies. At eleven! o’clock there was a second service, with Holy Communion. The music comprised :—Proper Psalms ; Benedicite (Roman) ; Jubilate (Attwood, in G) ; Kyrie (G. B. Agutter, in B flat) ; Credo (Goss, in D), with special hymns. In the evening at 630 o’clock, there was also full choral service, with special Psalms, and Canticles by Dr. Bunnett, in F. The church was well filled. The decorations, though not extensive, were characterised by good taste, a plentiful supply of choice fruits being intermingled with corn and flowers. Sermons appropriate to the occasion were preached by the Rev. E. A. Lingard. The offerings were devoted to the Sick and Needy Fund of the parish. At St. John’s Church the thanksgiving service was repeated last evening, the Church being tastefully decorated with corn, flowers, and evergreens. The sermon was baaed upon the story of Joseph in Egypt. At St. Michael and All Angels, the services were full choral, and the church was largely attended morning and evening. The building was emblematically decorated for tho occasion.
