CANTERBURY FEMALE REFUGE.
A special meeting of tho committee was hold on Wednesday last, March 3rd. Present His Lordship tho Primate (president), the Very Rev. tho Dean, Messrs. O. E. Blakiston, Q-. Booth, H. W. Packer, W. Pratt, and J. Aldred (secretary). Donations reported—Mr J. Ballantyne, £7O ; A Friend, per President, £7O (expressly given to make provision for receiving into the refuge women belonging to Class B) ; Mr H. Overton, per Mr Ballantyne, £5. The treasurer was unavoidably absent, but at the rising of the meeting a note was received from him, stating that since the last meeting he had received the sum of about £3O. The meeting requested tho treasurer and Mr Pratt to take immediate steps towards making the alterations, and obtaining the furniture necessary for the reception of the class aboyonamed. The committee acknowledged their indebtedness to both the morning and evening papers of Christchurch for the publication of matters relating to the refuge, and for their recognition of the claims of the institution to public sympathy and support. The secretary was instructed to convey the thanks of the committee to the gentlemen abovenamod for their very liberal donations.
