Operations in the tunnel connecting the Nepean water supply with Sydney_ have commenced. Mr Moriarty, the engineer, aaid that when finished it would bo the largest in the world, being four and a hal f miles long. The Sydney Commission for the Melbourne Exhibition asks £7OOO to defray the expenses of representation. The tradesmen interviewed the AttorneyGeneral to protest against the disposal by art union of the exhibits in the Italian and Belgian Courts. They received, an assurance that any contravention of the law would be prevented. The trial of the machines is proceeding at Orange at present. Robey'e is defeated. Marshall and Son's, and Foster and Co.'s have still to compete with Hornsby's, Buston and Proctor's and the Buffalo Company's. The Assembly rejected the proposal prohibiting the Government from buying anything of members. An apparently deliberate attempt to fire Wangabeim's Hotel was made on Sunday night. This makeß the fifth attempt on the same premises. A little girl, aged 12, said she did them each time, but heir story is disbelieved. At the police investigation it was shown that the hotel was insured.
Owing to the cloudy weather, no good observation of the comet was obtained.
