NATIVE LAND COMMISSION.

The Middle Island Native Land Purchases Commission have been sitting in the Provincial Council Chambers during the past week. On Friday they were occupied with the examination <•£ the Rev. J. W. Stack, who gave voluminous evidence with regard to the promises made by Meßsrß Kemp and Mantell in 1848 for the establishment of Native schools and hospitals as part consideration for the cession of the territory embraced within what is known as the Ngaitaihu deed. Mr Stack's examination will be resumed to-morrow, when he will be questioned by the Commissioners with regard to the reserves that have been set apart for the Natives in the province of Canterbury. After finishing their inquiries here the Commissioners will proceed to Dunedin, where investigation will be made into the purchase of the Otago block by Captain Symonds in 1853. After then they will hold their Court at Akaroa, touching the purchase of what is known as the Akaroa block.
