HARMONIC SOCIETY.
The committee mot yesterday afternoon at the office of Messrs Acland and Campbell. Present: Rev. H. O. M. Watson (in the chair), Professor Cooke, Messrs Acland, Thorne, Loughnan, J. T. M. Smith, Rowley, Rutland, and Landergan. It was resolved that Smart’s cantata, “ The Bride of Dunkerrow,” and a miscellaneous part of instrumental and vocal music be put into practice for the next concert. The secretary reported that the total receipts from the “Messiah” performance were £l3 ss, taken at the door and from sale of tickets, besides a large increase in the honorary members. Mr Rowley was thanked for his exertions in the cause of the society, and appointed honorary collector. Mr Charles Coombs was appointed to fill the vacant place on the committee. It was resolved that the treasurer bring up a financial statement for the purpose of showing what money may be available for the purchase of new works. Mr Acland gave notice that, at the next meeting of the committee, he would move, “ That tickets of life membership be
issued at five guineas, the proceeds to be "nplied to the purchase of a musical library.” It was agreed that the first rehearsal of the cantata should take place on Tuesday, the 27th instant. Before separating the committee unanimously expressed their obligations to the daily Press for the frequent and cordial notices which the society had received, and the very great help which had thus been rendered to the Harmonic Society.
