A letter was read from the Treasury Department, enclosing copy of voucher for which cheque had been deposited to the credit of the Council for amount of Government subsidy for halfyear ending December 31st next, £606 17s 3d. This was the net amount after deducting £43 7s 8d for survey of reserves, &o. From Messrs Royse, Stead and Co., asking for a discount of 25 per cent, off their account for water. Accounts were passed for payment amounting to £472 7s. The foreman of works report was (read. The portion of it referring to the line on London street was left in abeyance, it being thought that as the Council would have to employ a surveyor for other work shortly, the matter of moving a fence should be left until then. A footpath on Governor’s Bay road was ordered to be carried out. The engineer at the pumping station reported that the three-inch pipe had been successfully driven down inside the five-ineh pipe, the result being a fine flow of artesian water. The new engine for pumping the water into the upper reservoir was to be finished by Messrs Scott Bros, on Tuesday, the 18th inst. The earthquake shook the station sharply, but did not damage anything. The Council adjourned to Monday, 24th inst.
