RIFLE MATCH.
ENGINEERS Y. CITY GUARDS. A match was fired on Saturday, at the Cashmere range, between two teams selected from the Engineers and City Guards. The constitution of the teams were as follows : Two officers, one sergeant-major, one sergeant, one corporal, one lance-corporal, one private, and one recruit, not three months in the service, not having been a volunteer or,' cadet previously. The conditions wereEive shots at 200, 400, and 500 yards. Captain Hawkes was in charge of the teams. The following were the scores : ENGINEERS. 200 400 600 yds. yds. yds. Tl. Capt. Somerfiold ... 12 11 7 30 Recruit Bryan ... 9 8 4 21 105 99 68 272 Deficit 45 317 As will be seen the Engineers led at the first range by 11 points, at the second by 16, and finally won by 45. At the close of the first match another one was fired between the five highest scorers, on each side five shots each, at 500 yards. This resulted in a second win for tbe Engineers by ten points, the scores being—Engineers, 68 ; City Guards, 58.
