SPORTING.

TRAINING NOTES. j [By Sinead,] 1 As it wag thought by everybody that Satur- 1 day morning would be the finish of fast work, anxious touts who eagerly scanned the nags as they did their work were very numerous. Cults, as usual, was the first to commence operations. Mata, Natator, and Grip stripped, did 5 a good gallop of once round, Grip being out-paced from the jump. I think his show for the Derby will be very small. Te Whetu did a fairish gallop at three-quarter pace once round. Luna cantered, as did also The Agent, Laertes, and Numa. Tim Whiffler, Soukar, and Libeller had a fast spin, Soukar seeming to have the best of it. Pinflre went once round, in company with a hack ; they were then joined by Mr Prince’s two-year-old, and finished the last half mile at a clinking pace. York had twice round fast. Chancellor, who appeared in bandages, and who has been reported as gone amiss for the meeting, came out and gave the touts a treat, by going twice round at a great pace. lam still of the same opinion as I was last week concerning his show for the Handicap. I think he will be very hard to beat. Lone Hand, with Ray up, cantered twice round slow. Templeton, with a light rug on, in company with Hornby and Titania stripped, went a mile and a half at a fair pace ; Hornby, as usual, amusing the touts by his comical way of going. Maritana cantered three miles or so steady. Midge, _ Silverstream, Romeo, and Robin Hood did slow work. Adamant with Fuller up, Edward James and Daisy with light boys in the saddle, had a spin once round at top. Adamant doing what he liked with them at the finish. Betrayer did not work. Atlantic, Oberon, and the Waimea Colt did some slow work. WANGANUI SPRING MEETING. [By Telegraph.] Maiden Plate, .£SO ,- weight for age; li miles.
