MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
OHRISTOHUECH. Tuesday, Noyembeb 4. [Before G. L. Mellisb, Esq., B.M.] Disorderly Conduct. Garrett Gough and Mary Gough were charged, the former with destroying the property of David Cuff while in a state of intoxication, and the latter with using obscene language in Madras street while in a similar condition. The destruction of property consisted in the male prisoner smashing the window of the cab in which he was being taken to the lock up. Both offences were admitted. The Bench characterised the pair as a couple of unmitigated vagrants, who were a nuisance both in and out of town. The male prisoner was fined 20a, and ordered to pay the cost of the damage done to the cab, and the woman was fined 40a, with a caution of being dta't with in lor the Vagrant Act if brought up again. Failing to Appear. —Thomas Kelly, aliat Denis Anglin, remanded from October 31st, was charged with failing to appear at the Supreme Court, Dunedin, on the 6th of January, 1879, to answer to a charge of perjury. Constable O'Shea, stationed at Dunedin, stated that he knew the accused to be Denis Anglin, and that on the 30th of November, 1878, he served a summons on him to appear at the Resident Magistrate’s Court to answer a charge of perjury. He was committed for trial on December sth, 1878, was bailed out, and subsequently failed to appear at the Supreme Court to take his trial. The prisoner was remanded to Dunedin. Failing to Provide. —John Thomas Burbery was charged with failing to provide his wife and three children with adequate means of support. The Inspector of Police stated that Burbery was now at work, and that his wife was satisfied with the arrangement he made for the maintenance of herself and family. Ordered to pay costs and the charge dismissed.
