MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Thuhsday, Octobhb 16. [Before G. L. Lee, Esq., and A. Lean, Esq., J.P.’s.] Detoi and Disoedeely. —Two drunkards were fined 5s each, and a female habitue of the Court charged with the offence of drunkenness, 60s. Laeckny. —Mary Welstead, Mary Kelly and Anne Kelly was charged with stealing £4 17s, the property of Wm. Berkett. On the application of Mr Inspector Hickson, the prisoners were remanded for twenty-four hours. Abusive Language. —lsaac and Elizabeth Burtt were summoned for making use of abusive and threatening language to Elizabeth Trembath. Mr Gordon Holmes appeared for the defendants. Complainant and defendant were neighbors and resided at Bingsland, and the language alleged to have been used by the defendant and his wife was the final outcome of a series of quarrels between them and the complainant and her husband, which had culminated in a charge of theft against the complainant’s husband. The case had been dismissed by the Bench, and the abusive language now complained of was alleged to have been used in retaliation. Witnesses were heard on either side, and the case was eventually dismissed. Indecency. —lsabella Leckie and Samuel Mcßride were charged with commiting an act of indecency in the Domain the same morning, Mr Neck appeared for the accused. The offence was established beyond a doubt, and the Bench sentenced each of the prisoners to one month’s imprisonment with hard labor^
