PARLIAMENTARY ITEMS.

[Ur Teeegeaph.] [FEOir OTTB COEEBSPONDENTa.I WELLINGTON, October 15. The alarming statement of the Colonial Treasurer last evening was received with wonderful indifference by the supporters of the Government which has brought it upon the colony. Sir George Grey did not question its entire truth, but said it was just what every one knew who had seen his quarterly statements. Mr Ballance on the contrary disputed its accuracy, and made a more bitter speech than he usually does. Messrs Pyko and Turnbull made a sad exhibition of their ignorance of finance, and Mr Montgomery was only a little less absurd in his statements, A telegram came to the Government re the £5,000,000 loan last evening, but the Government decline to state what it is. As soon as the adjourned debate on the Qualifications of Electors Bill was called on this afternoon, Mr Sheehan moved the previous question, and the debate on that was kept up until the 5.30 adjournment. The Government have promised Mr Bryce’s Native statement on Friday evening, and offered to put the want of confidence motion on the top of the order paper for Tuesday next, but the Opposition will not agree to this, believing that with the assistance of Mr McCaughan, as well as Messrs Stewart and Pyke, they have now a majority of four. It appears the Government only want to retard Mr Macandrew’s motion until such, time as they are able to lay before the Honse in a proper manner all their measures, and full details regarding the various branches of administration in the colony.
