WAIMAKARIRI HARBOUR BOARD.

The monthly meeting of this Board was held at the Kaiapoi Borough Council Chamber on Monday evening. Present— Messrs Wearing (chairman), Moore, Eokersley, Parnham, Blackwell, Mathews, and Denton. A letter was read from Mr Woodford, asking for information as to placing the shafting in the dredge. The letter was referred to the engine committee. Mr J. Sims wrote relative to a bank near the wharf rented by him. The Chairman reported that after conferring with members he had put on a party of men to attend to this work. The action of the chairman was approved. An offer of the use of an engine for the dredge, for three or four months free, from Mr E. Evans, was accepted, the engine to be delivered next day. Mr Caleb Smith applied for transfer of river reserves 12 and 3 from Mr W. Qilkison, which was agreed to. The chairman reported that he had obtained a legal opinion as to whether the Board could dissolve or transfer its powers to another body, and was informed by Messrs Joynt and Perceval, solicitors, that it had no power to pass the motion made at a previous meeting. Accounts amounting to £3 13s 9d were passed. The engine committee was authorised to proceed with working the dredge as soon as possible. The Board then adjourned.
