THE LYTTELTON NOMINATIONS.
At noon to-day about seventy persons assembled in the Colonists' Hall, Lyttelton, for the purpose of taking part at the nominations of candidates for the representation of the Port in Parliament. Mr W. H. Eyes, the returning officer, made the usual offieial declarations, and called for nominations. Mr Adam Chalmers, in a short speech, nominated Mr H. P. Murray-Aynsley, Mr John G-rubb seconding. Mr S. R. Webb, in a brief speech, nominated Mr Harry Allwright, seconded by Mr J. Stenson. A show of hands was taken, when 22 were announced for Mr Murray-Aynsley, and 19 for Mr Allwright. The latter gentleman demanded a poll, which will take place on September 4. The candidates respectively then thanked the electors, and the proceedings terminated with a vote of thanks to the returning officer.
