SYDNEY EXHIBITION.
The usual weekly meeting of the local committee in connection with t ie Sidney Exhibition was held at the Chamber#" Comm no at 2 30 J# terday. Present—Messrs. P. Cunningham, 0. W. Turner, L. E. Nathan, and Bird (hon. sec ) The latter gentleman read the following communication : International Exhibition, 1879.—New Zealand Commission, Wellington, May 23rd, 1879. Sir,—l hare the honor to inform you that his Excellency Sir Hercules Robinson, as President of this Commission, will bo happy to learn through the secretary that you have decided to exhibit your products, manufactures, or specialities of any kind at the forthcoming International Exhibition, to be held in Sydney in September next. His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales has been graciously pleased to accept the presidency of the Commission appointed in London to cooperate with the Colonial Commissioners in carrying out the objects of the Exhibition ; it has further notified that Commia■ioners have been appointed by France, Germany, the Austro-Hungaricn Empire, and Belgium, to represent their respective countries in Sydney at the Exhibition, The fit. George’s Hall, Wellington, has been taken by this Commission us a depot for the reception and packing of exhibits, and you will oblige by forwarding your representations there at the earliest possible date. Callis, Secretary.” The secretary stated that since the last meeting he had received the following applications for space :—"Lyttelton Times,” for engraving and lithography; George Hyde, for boots ; Lightband, Allan and Co., for boots ard shoes of New Zealand manufacture; James E. Graham, for cheese; E. Vfilkin and Co., for seeds ; J. D. Enys, for building stone and stnffed New Zealand birds; Wm. Giob, for oil paintings of New Zealand scenery ; and W. M. N. Watkins, for oil paintings. Some discussion took place on the subject of obtaining a room in which to place the various exhibits, and the secretary was requested to look about for a suitable plac in which the various exhibits might be put before being finally packed up for dispatch to the exhibition. The committee resolved that in order to secure the proper packing of these, the same would bo undertaken by them. The committee spoke about the necessity of all exhibits being forwarded at as early a date as possible, in view of the short time now remaining before the exhibits must bo forwarded. After some conversation of a desultory character, the committee adjourned.
