CRICKET.

ENGLAND v COLONIES. This match was resumed on Saturday last, the Colonies commencing their innings with Watson and Hartland. The former quickly retired, and (' llivier, who followed, drove a ball from Ashby hard back, and the bowler made a grand catch. W, Frith came in, but Hartland did not long survive, being well caught by Corfe. No stand was made until Wood joined W. Frith, when the score was increased from 27 to 54. Wood was then caught at point for 13, in which were two 4’s and a 3. W. Frith was then bowled by Corfe, having played a good innings for 25. Three 4’s and four 2’s were his chief hits. At the fall of the last wicket the total had only reached 68, which left the Colonies exactly 100 behind, and therefore a follow-on was necessitated. Ashby and Corfe bowled well, but the batting, with one or two «scoptio»s, was feeble. Ashby had now to leave, and Secrotan bowled in his place in the second innings of the Colonies. Ollivier and Watson commenced the second innings, but Watson again retired early, being caught at point by Stevens. W. Frith joined Ollivier, and an effectual stand was made against the bowling, as at call of time both batsmen were still in, Ollivier having made 37 and W. Frith 28,(which with extras made up 69, for the loss of one wicket. The following is the score : England. First Innings 168 Colonies. First innings. G. Time was called before the conclusion of the innings. SOUTHERN C.O. v. “LYTTELTON TIMES” 0.0. This match took place last Saturday, on Latimer square, and resulted in a win for the former by four wickets, partly owing to the splendid batting of J. Belgrave. The scores were—S C.C., 57 and 22; L.T.C.C., 36 and 43. The bowling of Grubb and Petrie for the former and Marr and Dunlop for the latter was exceedingly good.
