AQUATICS.
The members of the Canterbury Rowing Club mustered in strong force, and had a capital afternoon’s sport on the Avon on Saturday, tho programme being a series of double sculling races, for which twelve crews had entered. Owing to the number of heats to be pulled off, it was decided to mak i the course a short one, from Pratt’s to the b ..thing place being the distance fi-.ed. As wll be seen from the appended details, the whole of the heats were closely contested, and the racing generally was the most enjoyable that has taken place this season. There was a first and second prize. Mr J. R. Lanauze pulling off the first, and Messrs L. M. Ollivier and Allison taking second. While the double sculling races were taking place below, the U.RC. were getting off their senior pair-oar races over a mile course, for prizes presented by Mr Gunderson; Messrs S. C. Kesteven and J. Duncan being the successful competitors. During the afternoon Mr Hennah, the vice-president of the U R.C., came down to the sheds, and presented Messrs S. C. and F. D. Kesteven with the prizes recently won in a pair-oar contest. The souvenirs consisted of handsome silver match-boxes, with the names of the successful competitors engraved thereon. The coxswain who steered them in the race, E. Manning, was presented with a set of silver studs and solitairs. Ihe following are the details of the various heats in connection with both clubs :
