HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Tuesday, October 29. SUPPLY. In Committee of Supply, last night, the following items pas ed:—Consolidated fund, ,£686,203 ; Native reserves account, .£ll7 10s ; Government Insurance account, .£1500; unauthorised expenditure, consolid.ted fund, .£78,412; Public Works account, .£22,000 ; total unauthorised, ,£100,452 10s. The resolutions were reported and ordered for consideration this day. During the discussion of the item Railway Construction Act, 1878 .£500,000, Major Atkinson protested against the trust to luck policy, to which he was no party. BILLS PASSED. The following Bills passed :—Seal Fisheries Protection Bill, Fisheries Dynamite Bill, and Rating Act Amendment. LAND GRANTS TO SOLDIERS. Sir R. Doulas moved the second reading of the Hamlin Laud Grant Bill, urging the claims of soldiers who shed their blood in the country, and asked whether any member of the House would agree to sell his life fo.« jG2OOO. The second reading was agreed to on the voices. The Native Minister promised that the amount asked under the Bill should be included in further estimates. Sir R. Douglas declined to proceed further with the Bill. RATING ACT. In committee on the Rating Act Amendment, Mr Reeves moved a new clause, giving power to local bodies to levy rates for the support of fire brigades and waterworks, which was negatived. The Bill was reported without amendment. ORDER OF BUSINESS. Mr Stout moved that the Government business takes precedence of other business on Wednesday. Mr Wakefield deprecated passing such a m tion during the morning in a thin House. At 3.24 a.m. Mr Stout moved the adjournment, which was agreed to, and the House adjourned until 2.30 to-day.
