At Quebec the local Twenty-two made 90, and the Australians 319. London, October 17. It is rumored that the Marquis of Normanby will succeed Sir G. Bowen. Sir Bartle Prere proceeds to India. Negotiations are proceeding between England, France, and Austria to secure a common agreement on European questions as a counterpoise to Russia. The report on the Glasgow City Bank shows an estimated loss of £6,191,000, excluding capital and reserve fund. The accounts had been falsified, and securities entered in fictitious names, bad debts treated as good assets, and the gold, covering an excessive note issue, squandered. The Government had been deceived by false returns and the shareholders by cooked balance- sheets. Among the colonial securities pledged are lands in Poverty Bay, New South Wales, and Queensland. A serious panic has occurred among Manchester building societies. France and England agreed upon the reforms to be undertaken in Egypt. The control of Alexandria remains with England, By a railway aocident at Potny-prid, Wales, ten persons were killed and twenty injured. The directors of the Colonial Trusts Corporation have been summoned to the Mansion House, to produce the books of the company in connection with their balance-sheet. Great monitary pressure continues. G-old continues to ebb away to Scotland. The reserve is bo low that a further advance of rates is inevitable. Numerous failures occurred on the Stock Exchange during recent settlement, but none for heavy amounts. October 18. The probable deficiency of the Glasgow Bank will be £5,000,000. Mr Cross said that the Government had no desire to extend the northern frontier in the direction of Afghanistan, if the Afghans continued strong, independent, and friendly. New Caledonia news to the 14th October states that the insurgents attacked the residence of Lambert, near Bourail, murdered Lambert ;md wife, four native servants, and one convict. Troops have been sent to the scene of the massacre. Melbourne, October 29. Firebell, which was backed for £30,000 last night, is now first favorite. The number of medals, &c, awarded at the Exhibition to Great Britain and her Colonies was seventeen grand prizes, six diplomas of honor, 214 gold medals, 122 silver medals, and -136 bronze medals The judges' awards have given general satisfaction. The exhibits highly commended are wheat and wool. Exhibition will remain open until November 20th.
