[PEE PEESB AGENCY.] Drowning at Ealclutha. Balcldtha, Oct.. 7. Great dissatisfaction is felt throughout the district in consequence of the detention here of mails for the last ten days. It is halfyearly balance with some banks, and bills have been dishonored on the 4th of the month, and other engagements not kept, while remittances are kept in the Post-office. The river is falling slowly, but great part of the township is still under water. When the water retires the whole township will be left covered with silt to a very considerable depth. Immense holes, some supposed to be thirty feet deep, are in the streets in many places, and it is exceedingly dangerous to move about till the water is off. Alexander Davidson, coal merchant, was drowned in a hole at the corner of Barr and James streets at 9 o’clock this morning. Three other men were with him, but could not save him. Davidson loaves a widow and family. Other two men were seen to be washed away with the current in the street, but were saved. Several other narrow escapes have occurred. Very few inhabitants have returned to the township. Inchclutha is still under water.
