POST OFFICE NOTICES.

Mails close at the Chief Post Office for the following places as under, subject to the necossary alterations:— THUESDAY, MAY 23. For Northern ports of New Zealand, per Taiaroa, at 1.50 p.m. ; late letters, 2.10 p.m.; railway station, 2.40 p.m. train. For Wellington, Nelson, and Australian Colonies, per Tararua, at 1.50 p.m.; late letters, 2.10 p.m. railway station, 4 pm. train. For Kaikonra apd Wellington, per Tui, at 3 p.m.; late letters, 3.20 p.m.; railway station, 4 p.m. train. Mails per Eotorua will close as under— Tor United Kingdom, via San Francisco, America, the Continent of Europe, Canada, Sandwich Islands, Sydney, Brisbane, Northern Ports of New Zealand, Ac, at 9 p.m. For money orders and registered correspondence, 5 p.m. For newspapers and book packets, 8 p.m. The English mail iper Eotorua will arrive at London, July 9th. Friday, 24th May (Queen's Birthday), being a Post-Office holiday, all local mails usually dispatched on that day will close at Christchurch the previous day, 23rd, at 8 v.m. The delivery window at the Christchurch Office will be opened for delivery of town letters from 8 to 9 p.m. on the 23rd instant, and applicants are particularly requested to state their addresses in full. FRIDAY, MAY 24. For Akaroa and Otago, per Taranaki, at 11 a.m.; late letters, 11.20 a.m. ; railway station, 12.10 p.m train. Supplementary mails for despatch per Eotorua will close at 3 p.m., and late letters may bo posted in the guard's van attached to the 4 p.m. train for IJytteltoJi, provided such letters hear in addition to the full postage a further single rate of postage as a late fee. The Stamp and Eegistered Letter window at the Chief Office will bo opened this day from 9 a.m. ■until 4 p.m., and registered correspondence must be posted t>y 2 p.m. All other branches of the offico will bo closed.
