AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Melbourne.—’The ‘‘Argus’’ of April 17th reports :—Breadstnfls are decidedly easier, as was fully evinced at the auction sales of the day. Flour cannot now be quoted over £il 16s to £ll 17s 6d. At auction a small lot was placed at as much as £l2, but for anything like parcels £ll 15s is a full quotation. Wheat is also lower, lu the morning a line of 300 bags was disposed of at ba 7-ld, but afterwards a decidedly easier feeling prevailed, and before the day was over 5s 6d became a full quotation for fine milling. At one auction sale, only a small lot of damaged was quitted at 5s 2Jd, the remainder, owing to the unsatisfactory nature of the bidding, was withdrawn ; at another sale, 600 bags of medium were disposed of at 5s 4ld to 5s sd, aud for lower qualities 5s 21,d was accepted. For a parcel of 200 bags prime 5s Cd was offered aud refused. Oats are likewise lower, but the principal decline has been ou feeding qualities; milling sorts were sold at ss. Tasmanian feeding realised 4s 3Jd to Is 6d, while Victorian were quitted at is lid to 4s 2Jd; about 1200 bags in all found buyers. Barley is very scarce, aud much wanted a parcel of mixed English and Capo was got rid of at 5s lid. A moderate amount of business has been done iii sugar: 2080 hags aud mats Natal grown, ex E. J. Spence, were cleared off at £32 to £33 for yellows, £3O to £3l 10s for medium counters, £2B to £29 for browns, £27 to £27 10s for rations, and £25 to £26 10s for low to medium rations. Damaged sugar was at same time cleared off at £29 to £3O. A parcel of Java teas was disposed of at an improvement. Tho low prices at which these teas have been selling hitherto have brought them into notice, aud tho quality being now more appreciated, they arc coming into considerable favour; from Ojjd to Is lid was realised, 150 packages low congous were placed at Ibid. 100 boxes gunpowder were sold privately at Is. A considerable business in fruits was done at auction, and amongst other lines we note the disposal of 5000 boxes figs at CJd. In liquids wo note the sale of 200 cases Burke’s stout, champagne bottles, on private terms. Trade parcels of Bass’s bulk ulo are moving at £8 10s,
