The Hinexnoa arrived this morning. Sir George Grey goes to Waikato early on Wednesday. A Working Men's* Club has been successfully established. At a meeting of the Bay of Islands Coal Company, the report read referred to the improved prospects in consequence of the Union Company using the coal. A dividend of ten per cent, was declared. New Plymouth', January 28. The Harbor Board have elected Mr Charles D. Irvine as Resident Engineer at a salary, for first year, of £BOO. The Mayor h«s received a letter from the Lord Mayor of London, thanking him for the subscriptions to the Indian Famine Relief Fund, Wellington, January 28. An attempt was made this evening to blow up the sunken hulk Hi Whitney, which was cut down by the Taupo some months ago The hulk lies about 200 yards from the end of the Queen’s wharf in 30 feet of water. A charge of 20lb. of dynamite was used, being set off by electricity from a battery supplied by the Telegraph Department. There was a sharp report, as a few pieces of timber came to the surface, and the mainmast was canted to an angle. There was very little commotion in the water, and no shock was felt at the end of the pier. At the Wesleyan Conference, the Rev. W. Morley was re appointed editor of the “ New Zealand Wesleyan,” and the Rev. T. Buddie, Principal of the College. The following representatives were elected to attend the next Sydney General Conference : —Revs. Messrs Crump, Morley, Buddie, Reid, Fitchett, Kirk, Richardson, and Bavin ; laymen—X)r. Borrows, Messrs Turner, Buddie, Manchester, Jackson, Harris, Hobbs, Moxhara. It was resolved to float a Connexional Fire Insurance Company, with a guarantee fund of not less than £3OOO. Five candidates for the Ministry have been received. Three ministers have been sent for from Victoria, and two from England. It has been decided to hold the next Conference at Auckland.
