Steamers arrive at Batavia from Sincapore on the 3rd, 6th, 17bh, and 20th of February, but many local steamers are sure to arrive between these days. The Wellington team completed their second innings, scoring only a few runs. The Australians in their second innings got ten runs with the loss of one wicket, which won the match. They are now playing a singleinnings match ; the Wellington men are at the wicket. The weather is fine, but the attendance meagre at present. Dunedin, January 29. Nearly a thousand persons attended the meeting for the election of the school committee last night. The meeting was very stormy, and tlio mode of election gave general dissatisfaction, and was severely criticised. The Catholics held aloof. Resolutions were passed recommending the committee to endeavor to have the defects of the Act remedied. Mr J. P. Armstrong is likely to become a candidate for the election of Mount Ida in the General Assembly if Mr De Latour carries out his expressed intention of resigning his seat. Telephones are being used here by one or two business people to connect their warehouse with tho office.
