AUCKLAND RACES. [By Telegraph.] Auckland, January 1. There was a larger attendance at the races to-day than has been seen for years. The following were the events : Derby Stakes, 100 sovs., added to a sweep of 10 sovs. The Popej Barron, and Jessamy were scratched. Walters's Venus Transit, Bst 51b ... ... 1 Buckland's Queen Mab, Bst 51b ... ... 0 Venus was never called on, and won at pleasure. Selling Race, 50 sovs, with sweepstakes of 3 sovs. Winner to be sold at 800 sovs. If entered to be sold at 200 sovs, 71b allowed, if for 100 sovs 141 b, if for 50 sovs 211 b. Distance, one mile. Walters's Isaac Walton, Bst 41b ... ... 1 Bolton's Tom Finn, Bst 111 b 2 Hunt's Staverton, 6st 41b ... ... ... 3 The Pope, Polly, and Gillie Callum also ran. Isaac| Walton won easily, hard held. At the auction no advance was made on the selling price. Publicans' Purse, 60 sovs, 2 sovs sweepstakes added. All were scratched but Hippocampus and Ratcatcher. Hippo had the race in hand, and won as he chose. Racing Club Handicap of 200 sovs, with sweepstakes of 5 sovs. Bolton's Lara, Bst 101 b 1 Chadwick's Elaa, 7st 101 b 2 Caulton's G-illie Callum, 7st 41b 3 Venus Transit and Rosalie also ran. This was a fine race, and was won cleverly by Lara by a length.
