The chairman explained that the Commissioners of Sinking Fund had agreed to lend the Board £SOOO at G per cent., which would be applied to the paying off of £BOOO borrowed from the College at 7 per cent. The chairman reported that the sum of £IOOO had born mvivod !-ni>:e< luei meeting, partly from rates and partly from the Greneral Government, under the Financial

Arrangements Act. The amount received from the laftor was £558 18s 6d as a first instalment, under the Act, to which they were entitled. The report of the overseer was read. He reported that the river had been in flood since the sth inst., and it was very difficult to report upon the steps to be taken to repair the breach made in the natural bank. He did not think, however, that the necessity was pressing, and perhaps the Board would like to see the place. He recommended tho lengthening of the embankment at the land end, near Watson's. Several works are necessary to be carried out, in order to hold the river in cheek, and he was now getting gabions made which, he thought, would enable him to hold his own, at any rate temporarily. The report was discussed, and it waß resolved that the overseer should be instructed to put in some light temporary willow groins so soon as he could. It was also resolved that the Sandy Knolls Bank should be heightened as early as possible in the slack places. The overseer was in attendance, and stated thai the liood on the sth was one of the highest known on the river. The overseer was instructed to proceed simultaneously at two points mentioned in bis report, the upper to be done with timber and the lower in concrete, the latter one to be the permanent work. It was also decided that the overseer should carry out the extension landwards of No. 1 embankment. After transacting some further business the Board adjourned.
