AQUATICS.

The senior pair-oar races for prizes presented to the Union Rowing Club by Mr Herman, came off last evening, the course being from Pratt's Corner to the Willows just below the boat sheds. Mr H. Thomson acted as starter, and Mr Herman officiated in the capacity of judge, though the racing was not of such a nature as to render the latter position one of very grove responsibility. Two heats only wero pulled off, with the following result:— I'IKST MMAT. Syren North hank Jaeob.sou] P., and Jaeobsen T. B. (Harris, cox) 1 Una Houtli hank -Walters and Gape:. (Fuller, cox) 2 A good start was effected, and the boats were on even terms coming up the straight, but on rounding the corner below Herdson's, the Syren got a lead, which was increased to a couple of lengths before reaching Stanmore bridge, from whence the distance between the two boats grrdually increased, the Syren reaching the winning post three lengths ahead of the Una. NKOOND HEAT. Una South hank Campbell and Petrie (Wood, cox) 1 Syren-North bank—Harding and Grossman (Eowe, cox) , 2 The boats fouled at the start, but theyjwero afterwards gof, well away together, the Una quickly getting a lead, and reaching the winning post first by a number of lengths with the greatest of ease. The final heat will be pulled this evening over the same course between the Brothers Jacobsen and Campbell and Petrie. This should be a good and close race. Campbell and Petrie have been in active training for a considerable time, and for this reason, combined witli the plucky manner in which they pull, they deserve to be first'at the winning post, but it is very doubtful if they will be able to hold their own against two such opponents as the JacobEen brothers, though the latter pull anything but a perfect stroke.
