PARLIAMENTARY INCIDENTS.
[from the correspondent oe thk i'bess.] Wellington, Nov. 14. Members of the civil service are very dissatisfied with Sir Geo. Grey's answer to Mr Stafford yesterday, and the question will be repeated. The whole story has arisen from Mr Larnach's apparent belief that Mr Batkin and the clerks of tho Treasury should prepare financial statements —figures, policy, and everything. They naturally think this no part of their duties. The Government are carefully keeping questions off the order paper, on which party discussions may arise, and the Opposition have no opportunity of doing anything. They will not oppose a further imprest supply, but keep the amount small, and. probably nothing will be done till Monday, when tho financial Statement is to be delivered. Mr Sheehan is to -.uiako his statement on Native Affairs to-night, and the House will probably then go into committee on the Land I Bill. It is a subject of amusement that Mr Sheehan announced some days ago that the i Canterbury runholders must be content with | Eve years, and would get no mow ;, and that j tvhen the Government proposals in the Bill ■ urera brought an, Qia Government were de- | feated by ten, Mr Larnach himself voting j igainst them, though clearly given out as * Got srajaont laeasuros.
