Mr Bray then proceeded to give a very interesting and instructive discourse on the Pyramids of Egypt, dwelling at some length on their early history, construction, and utility, illustrating his remarks by elaborate diagrams which he had prepared for the occasion. There was a numerous and appreciative audience, and at the close of the lecture a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Bray for his able discourse, and for the pains he had taken in preparing and illustrating his subject. Fatal Accident. —The “South Canterbury Times” reports that on Friday afternoon a child named James Steel, son of Alexander Steel, aged one year and ten months, was drowned in a water hole, on his father’s premises, about one and three-quarter miles from the Washdyke. Inquest at Lyttelton. —An inquest was held yesterday afternoon at the Mitre Hotel, Lyttelton, before J. W. S. Coward, Esq., coroner, on the body of W. It was shown that there was no gangway between the vessel and the wharf, and the foreman of the jury said there was great dissatisfaction in Lyttelton with regard to this matter. He did not know whether there was anything in the harbour regulations on the subject, but from Captain Cleary’s evidence it appeared that if there was he had received no notice of it, and thercwas not to Fame. The Coroner said that he had written, as requested on the last occasion, to the chairman of the Harbor Board, and had received a printed fonn in reply, from which ho understood that stringent regulations were in force. He would write again, however, if t.he jury wished. The jury requested that he would again write to the chairman of the Harbor Board on the matter. A verdict of “ Accidental Death” was then returned.
