PARLIAMENTARY INCIDENTS.

[from the correspondent of the press.] Wellington, August 13. It is stated that the Government will withdraw the Native Lands Bill to-morrow, and bring in a fresh one, with greater restrictions as to the purchase of large estates. The Opposition feel confident of defeating the Government on Mr Woolcock’s motion even if the Native Lands Bill be withdrawn, and I hear on good authority that Sir William Fitzherbert has consented to take office in case of the defeat of the Government. Considerable satisfaction is expressed as to the results shown in the Public Works Statement, hut the proposals for the coming year are considered paltry, main lines being sacrificed to local ones.
