It is stated by the Times that Count Schoiwaloff, the Russian Ambassador at London, is the beaver of a Note replying to certain questions raised by England, and further says that the Note has special reference to the eventual temporary occupation of Constantinople by Russia. The President of the Paris Municipal Council has been arrested for attacking Presiden McMahon. AUSTRALIAN. Sydney, June 7. The lion. Mr Robinson's resolution, condemning the Premier's letter to the Agcnt-G-eneral referring to the letter of the latter on "The Fallacies of Federation," was negatived. Sir William Jcrvois's report approves generally of the present outer fortifications, and recommends the use of torpedoes at Sydney, Newcastle, and Botany Bay, and of ironclads for the defence of the coast and against bombardment. Regarding the railway accident near Fielding, yesterday, it appears that the train consisted of three carriages and one truck. The engine and break ran off the rails, smashing the engine, which will take some weeks to repair. The manager and Mr Stewart, with the proper appliances, started at once to superintend the necessary repairs. Wellington, June 7. A return lately prepared shows the progress of the city of Wellington during the past seven or eight years, as regards the value of rateable property. In the year 1870-71 the value of sucb property was £72,125. It now stands at £170,050.
