per share. They were unallotted, and sold by the Company. As soon as the name of the purchaser became known shares advanced seven shillings. Grahamstown, April 1. The match for £2OO between Sir Walter and Bedouin camcoff to-day. Sir Walter forced the running from the first, and won by three lengths. The betting was even. Wellington, March 31. The Alhambra sails for Lyttelton at 10 a.m. to-morrow. Amongst the passengers for Melbourne arc eleven Italians. The ship Plcione, with general cargo, has arrived from London, after a passage of 109 days. She brings a number of cabin passengers. The Government Printing Office has just printed a duty stamp which represents £2134, the probate duty paid on the will of the late Sir Donald M'Lean; the property devised being estimated at £106,700. Balclutha, March 31. The Hon. Donald Reid, Minister of JLands, visited Balclutha yesterday. He had a meeting with the Mayor and Town Council, and satisfactorily arranged for the municipality taking control of the bridge. Mr Reid went to Kaitangata in the afternoon, and thoroughly inspected the coal pits. He expressed sur prize at the great extent of the workings and superior quality of the coal. He left for Invercargill to-day.
