SPORTING NOTES FROM DUNEDIN.

THE LATEST BETTING.

[by telegraph.]

(From a correspondent of the Press.) Titania was backed to win £ISOO on Saturday evening, and some surmise arose therefrom that stie will be her stable s representative for the Cup. Elfin King is less firm, but while Punga still remains at her old quotation of 10 to 1, Templeton, has been backed down to 5 to 1, and he is now undoubtedly the popular favorite. Puriri was all the rage till this week, but. 8 to 1 now goes begging about him. Hippocampus and Fishhook are steadily supported, and there are occasional investments on Right Bower, King Philip, and Dead Heat. Last evening SOO to 240 was laid on Logan’s colt against Templeton, for place. Maroro has no friend, but Guy Fawkes promises to strengthen into a bit of a favorite. Danebury and Fallacy are also shortening in price, though there is plenty of money about them. The following is an approximate list of quotations : DUNEDIN CUP. 5 to 1 agst Templeton (tk) 8 to 1 agst Puriri (off) 9 to 1 agst Hippocampus (tk) 9 to I agst Fishhook (tk) 10 to I agst Punga (tk) 10 to 1 agst Dead Heat (tk) 10 to 1 agst Bight Bower (tk) 100 to 8 agst King Philip (off) 100 to 8 agst Danebury (tk) 100 to 8 agst Guy Fawkes (off) l<to to 7 agst Fallacy (tk) 100 to 6 agst Elfin King (off) 100 to 6 agst Titania (off) DERRY, 3 to 1 agst Danebury (off) 4 to 1 agst Hippocampus toff) 4 to 1 agst Fallacy (tk)] 5 to 1 agst Dead Heat (off) 5 to 1 agst Puriri (off) In £96 Galcuttas last night, Guy Fawkes fetched £4 ; Templeton, £lO ; Fishhook, £8 10s ; Right Bower. £4 10a ; Punga, £6 ; Puriri, £4 ; Elfin King, £3 10s ; Hippo, £4; Fallacy, £4 10a ; King Philip, £5. Tedd Cutis was out first at Forbury this morning with Guy, Puriri, and Bribery, and, taking them over to the half mile post, he stripped the two first mentioned, and sent them twice round outside the hurdles with Danebury, whom Bob Ray had also stripped. The pace was made pretty hot part of the way, the two rounds being done in 4min Guy Fawkes was in splendid trim, and pulled hard all the way, and Puriri also went strong, while Danebury, though held back some twenty lengths behind the two leaders, was going quite within himself, and could have gone up to Puriri at any moment. Bribery weni twice round by herself a steady gallop. Templeton and Elfin King worked together for a change this morning, the pmr being sept twice roupd at three-quarter speed. _ Pungaweiewere and Titania followed the elder mare going magnifipently; she is so much pdmired that I expect to see her very short price if Mr Delamain should send her fpr the cup. Hippocampus an d Tadmor went p mile and three-quarters, the pair starting together, but the colt soon leaving his mate in the lurch. Lynch gave Stormbird three miles by himself, the old horse going slow, but looking well. Fishhook, lallacy, and Dead Heat were stripped, and sent twice round at a good striding gallop; O’Brien’s horse leading all the way, while Dead Heat went again rather unkindly. Fishhook’s time for the last round was 2min 13-J-seo. Stirabout and Princess Mary had a strong gallop together, each alternately leading. Rob Roy did only walking exercise. Right _ Bower was stripped, and started from the distance post, going twice round the hurdles, and finishing at the stand, the gallop occupying 4min 50sec. Little Dan joined him at the second round, and brought him home. The Bower sweated a little, but looks very well indeed. King Philip went about two miles and a half in his hood by himself after all the spectators had left the course. He wont freer than usual, and as far as outward appearances go will strip one of the best looking horses on the course, Zetland went three times round, and old Banjo, looking very fit, did about the same distance. The two-year-old Miss King colt did a little exercise.
