MARRIED y SINGLE, U.C.C.C. The U.C.C.C. commenced their match of Married against Single on Saturday last. There was a good attendance of members, and it was resolved to play all who came up to the ground. As the benedicts were in the minority some of the single played with them to make the sides more equal. The Married were first at the wickets, A. Ollivier and Wood being their first representatives, while Moore and Alington (slows) commenced the attack. In the third over of the slows Ollivier gave an easy chance to square leg but escaped, and soon afterwards should have been run out, fortune, however, favored him again. Wood in trying a sharp run had to pay the penalty —1 for 19, and Ollivier did not long survive, as he was clean bowled by Moore—--2 for 27. The retiring batsman made 18 by two 3’s, two 2’s, and singles; but his innings was not remarkable for good play. No stand of any length was made by the remaining batsmen, as will be seen from the totals at the fall of each wicket, which are as follows: —1 for 19, 2 for 27, 3 and 4 for 30, 5 for 41, 6 for 43, 7 for 44, 8 for 49, 9 for 53, 10 and II for 54, 12 for 61. The Single then took up the defensive and made a good commencement, the runs being chiefly made by Moore, who appeared to do nearly as he liked with the bowling. The first wicket, E. Cotteriil’s, fell for 25; his total includes a fine hit for 4 ; but he should have been caught soon afterwards, but shortslip failed to hold the ball. Alington made a stand, and with Moore gave the field plenty of work. A change of bowling was tried, Parkerson relieving Souter at the lower wicket; this proved effectual, as Alington let a straight one pass, and had to retire having made 11 by a 4, two 2’s, &c—3 for 58. Moore left soon afterwards, being bowled off his pads by Dickenson, but not until he had made 40, by four 4’s, two 3’s, two 2’s, &c. J. Barker was the only other player for the Single who obtained double figures, carrying out his bat for 11, made up by a 3, three 2’s, and singles, and the innings closed for 97. The match will be resumed next Saturday. The following is the score of Saturday’s play : MARRIED. Ist Innings. A, M. Ollivier, b Moore 18 J. Wood, run out ... 6 H. P. Lance, b Moore 4 J.
