DE MURSKA’S CONCERT.

Mr Mecalfe, De Murska’s agent, arrived yesterday, per Taupo, to make arrangements for the appearance of this renowned artiste at the Canterbury Music Hall. Mdlle De Murska will open on Friday evening, instead of Thursday, as previously advertised. During the season she will present a series of operatic performances which elsewhere have been so successful. Speaking of her scene from Dinorah, a Wellington contemporary says :—“ Mdlle de Murska surpassed all her previous performances in the ‘ Shadow song,’ which was given with full scenic effects. Her gracefulness of action, coupled with the utmost clearness and brilliancy of voice, secured to her a triumph of no ordinary kind in the representation of this charming scene ; in fact it was the most complete and perfect performance of the kind that we ever remember to have witnessed. The scenery was admirable ; the ‘ Shadow ’ was skilfully pourtrayed, and Mdlle’s acting surpassed the very highest expectations of all who heard her.” This scene she will give on her opening night. She has also promised the Miserere scene from “Trovatore,” with Signor Rosnati and chorus ; and during the series the Mad scene from “Lucia” is to be produced. The orchestra is to be conducted by Maestro Strauss Ilia. This gentleman has also promised to give some of his violin solos. Since leaving here the company has been increased by the addition of Mr Hadley, who acts as accompanyist.
