THE FORTHCOMING POULTRY SHOW.
The annual exhibition of poultry, pigeons, canaries, &c, under the auspices of the Christchurch Poultry Association, takes places in the Oddfellows' Hall on the 25th and 26th instant. Year by year, through the efforts of the association, the shows have improved alike in the numbers of the exhibits and their quality. Stimulated by the prizes annually offered, our fanciers have imported from the old country and adjoining colonies some very high pedigre? birds. It must therefore be very gratifying to the members of the managing committee to find that their efforts to keep up the prestige of the society, by offering liberal prizes, has been so much appreciated by the breeders and fanciers of poultry, pigeons, and canaries, that the large number of 371 entries, all told, have been made for the show of 1876. Last year the exhibition, with 264 entries, was considered a great success. It must however be patent that this year, taking into consideration the fact that there are over 100 entries made more than last year, the show will be well worth seeing Iu addition to the increased number it must also be remembered that a large number of these entries are importations from Melbourne, Sydney, Tasmania, &c, during the past twelve months. We are glad to note that entries in six classes of poultry have been made from Timaru. It is satisfactory to find that districts outside Christchurch are beginning to think it worth while to compete. It is the first step toward what we desire to see, viz, the making the annual show of the Association one in which not alone Christchurch, but the whole province, and if possible other provinces shall be represented. The Timaru birds are spoken of very highly, and we hope that their plucky owners will get a prize. The comparative statement for 1875 and 1876, giving the number and details of the various entries made will show that the principal increase this year will be in the games, Brahma, and pigeon classes, and it is anticipated that the competition will be very keen. The handsome prizes offered by vhe Society for the pigeon race from Ashburton have brought to the front thirteen entries, and judging from the time reported to have been made in training, it is believed that the race will be a great success. The following i.'J the entries:—From Lyttclton : Mr H. Hawkinp, janr's, Red Jacket. Christchurch —Mr Macquarie's Hawk ; Mr A. Walker's Korari; Mr Hicks' Faugh-a-Bal-lagh and Black Bess ; Mr Saunders' Friar Tuck; Mr W. G.
