POLITICAL NEWS.
(From a correspondent of the Press ) According to arrangement, Kr G. Grey called a meeting of the Auckland members for Saturday, but he only sent a circular to those who had voted for separation, and it was agreed to postpone the meeting to Monday to have a general representation of Auckland. The feeling of a large section of the Auckland members is that Sir G. Grey's opposition has been altogether void of conciliation or compromise, and Miuisters complain that there was no opportunity for conference or for concessions being made. If an Opposition still exists, Sir G.Grey is virtually no longer leader; but the Opposition is split. M r Donald Rcid has declared for the Counties Bill as the next best thing to provincialism, and the Otago, as well as the Auckland, members, are now very nearly divided. Tho majority of the Auckland members wish Mr Wbitaker to be leader of the Opposition, but the others suggest his having a seat on the Ministerial benches. The situation at present is Bimply disorganisation among the la!e Opposition.
