Lajrceny. Edwin Turner was charged with the larceny of an over-coat valued at £7, from the City Hotel, on or about the Ist July, belonging to Mr Cowell, traveller. Mr Thomas appeared for accused. Inspector Feast told the Bench that Mr Cowell had stated that the missing coat had been made for him by Sampson, tailor, of Dunedin, and Mr Sampson's foreman had since recognised it as one made for Mr Cowell in that establishment. The prosecutor was at present in the North Island, and he would ask for a remand for eight days. Mr Thomas submitted that if, in the absence of any evidence being produced to show that the coat had been stolen, his Worship intended to grant a remand, he hoped his client would be admitted to bail. His Worship said the remand asked for would be granted, and accused would be admitted to bail, himself in £IOO and one substantial surety in the same amount.
