WHITE ROCK STONE.

We have been favoured with an analysis of the white rock stone from Mr William Wilson's quarry at Ashley. The analysis was made by Mr Cosmo Newberry, Victorian Government analyst.

"This stone is a fine-grained argillaceous limestone of even texture. In colour it is grey, inclined to yellow. Its specific gravity is 2'36 ; 100 parts were found to absorb 11 60 parts of water. Upon analysis it gave— Carbonate of lime 7340 „ iron traces „ magnesia do Peroxide of iron 2 8^ Insoluble matter (clay) 22'20 Alkaline chlorides 'B7 Water * 65

100-00 This stone may be wrought with nearly the same ease as the well-known Oamaru limestone, and as it is not so porous or open in texture, it wi'l not be liable to discolor when exposed to a dusty town atmosphere. Besides being a building "stone of good quality, this rock, when burned, yields a lime which possesses hydraulic properties."
