CHRISTCHURCH HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

The adjourned annual meeting of this society was held on Wednesday at the Congregational schoolroom, Manchester street; Mr B. C. J. Stevens in the chair, to receive the report of the deputation recently appointed to confer with the deputation of the Horticultural and Arboricultural Society. The chairman explained that the deputation had met the deputation of the other Bociety, and he believed terms had been arranged which would only require confirma tion at their hands to make the two societies one.

Mr Reade stated thathe believed the terms arrived at would be satisfactory to both societies. They were as follows:—"1. On and after 20th April, 1876, all members of Canterbury Horticultural and Arboricultural Society to be deemed members of Christchurch Horticultural Society. 2. Tne adjourned annual meeting of Christchurch Horticultural Society to be further adjourned until date mentioned in Article 1, so as to allow of members of Canterbury Horticultural and Arboricultural Society taking part in election of officers for ensuing year. 3. The present rules of Christchurch Horticultural Society to remain in force until altered by general meeting in the usual course, should any alterations be deemed necessary. 4. The records of the Canterbury Horticultural and Arboricultural Society to be preserved in the care of the Christchurch Horticultural Society. 5. It is understood that the Christchurch Horticultural Society will, as soon as possible after the proposed amalgamation, revise the present rules, with a view to any alterations which may appear desirable." All that would be necessary to give practical effect to the above resolution would be to adjourn the meeting, and when they again met they would all be members of the one society. Of course they would have to adopt the resolutions which had been read to them. Mr Reade moved that the amalgamation take place on the terms agreed to by the delegates of the two societies. Carried unanimously. The meeting was then adjourned until Thursday evening, the 20th instant.
