LINCOLN.
A meeting of the Board was held at the office, Prebbleton, on Thursday, the 9th inst. Present—Messrs J. N. Tosswill (chairman), Leadley, and Maskrey. Tenders were opened, and one accepted in each case for the following works :—South road, forming 20 chains ; Waterholes road, forming 114 chains; Perryman’s road, forming 50 chains more or less; Tancred and Halswell road, forming 72 chains; Geiken and Crook’s road, forming 10 chains ; Dawson’s road, metalling 43 chains; Townshend’s and Blackler’s drains, cleansing and maintaining. The following correspondence was read: —From Mr F. Merchant, tendering the resignation of his seat on the Board, Mr Leadley moved—“ That Mr Merchant's resignation be accepted, and that the Board desires to express its sense of the efficient manner in which he has fulfilled his duties while holding his seat on the Board; also that the chairman be requested to call a meeting of ratepayers, to be held on Thursday, the 6th of April, at 12 noon, for the election of a new member. From the Secretary for Public Works, informing the Board that the Government have entered into a contract with Mr J. McWilliams for clearing the river Halswell for the sum of £650, and forwarding a schedule showing the amount payable by each Board towards the work; and that the amount due by the Lincoln Road Board will be £lO4 3s 2,id, which sum will be deducted from the Provincial Boad Board grant. From the Halswell Road Board, acknowledging the receipt of £lO 2s, being half share of expense for repairs to bridge over the Halswell at the boundary; also informing the Board that the letter relative to the bridge over the Halswell at Nutts’ will be placed before the Board at their next meeting. A circular was recived from the chairman of the Ashley Road Board enclosing resolutions deprecating the forming of shires within provincial districts, and inviting the co-operation of the Board. It was moved by Mr Leadley and carried —"That the surveyor be directed to reply that the Lincoln Road Board concurs with the Ashley Road Board in the opinion ' that the instance for amalgamation should proceed from the Boad Boards interested,’ ’’ The surveyor read a report upon the state of the main culverts upon the Springs road. It was resolved to place stone culverts across the Springs road at the church; also pipe culverts at ffm, Prebble’s gully, and near the manse. The Board then adjourned until Thursday, April 6th, 1876.
