AVON.

A meeting of the Board was held on the 6th March. All the members were present. The report of the surveyor was then read and considered. Mr Kerr saw the Board relative to forming the approaches to the New Brighton bridge, when he was informed that the clerk was instructed to write to the Heathcote Road Board, requesting permission to take soil from their side of the river, to fill in the approach. Mr Hawkins saw the Board, and requested that s'mething might be done to the road and bridges by his property. The surveyor was instructed to take levels ; also, to examine and report upon the bridges. In reference to letter from Mr Btrouts, with regard to foot-bridge oyer Avon, at Wakefield road, the clerk was instructed to look up the minutes referring to the subject. Mr Spencer saw the Board relative to No 2 drain ; also, clearing River Styx. Messrs Rickman and Sargent saw the Board, and requested to have the shingling on Innis’ road continued to North road Mr Codling saw the Board about forming a road, and stated that he was willing to pay bis share. Resolved—“ That the clerk be instructed to reply to same.” Letter received from Mr Rastrick with regard to road being shingled. Letters were received from Messrs Hodge, Palmer, and Hill, and the clerk was instructed to reply to them. Letter read from church steward, complaining of cattle and horses being allowed to run at large on the church section, thereby damaging the roads and footpaths. Resolved —“That notice be advertised to owners of cattle and horses to remove them.” Circular read from chairman of the Ashley Road Board, relative to the formation of shires. Resolved —“ That consideration of the matter stand over till next meeting,” Tenders were received for formation and shingling of Hill’s road and building bridge thereon. The tenders of T, Ooomer for road, and T. Free for bridge were accepted. Tenders were also received for cutting drain to Papanui, when that of Giemwski was accepted. Accounts were passed and ordered to be paid. The Board then adjourned,
