MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, September 20. (Before Dr Back and T, W. Maude., Esqs, J.P.’s.) Drunk and Resisting the Police.— John McCormick, charged with this offence, was fined 10s. Drunk and Disorderly. —The following inebriates were dealt with :—Phoebe Miller, an old offender, was fined 20s, or forty-eight hours ; Jacob Cox, 20s ; and Joseph Brown, his first offence, ss, Fighting. —Thomas Crisp and Robert Patterson were charged with fighting in front of the Theatre, on Saturday night. From the evidence it appeared that Crisp, who was drunk, struck the other man first, the blow was returned, and a tight ensued, a large crowd collecting before the accused were removed. A witness called, stated that when Patterson was coming out of the Theatre, Crisp struck him without receiving any provocation. The charge against Patterson was dismissed, and Crisp was fined 10s.
