SPORTING.

{From the Leader,') We learn from a private source that Mr John George Dougharty, the well-known stock and station agent, who is now on a visit to the old country, was a large purchaser at the sale of the late Mr Launde’s stud. He secured Holy Friar, also his brother and sister. It will be remembered that Holy Friar was a great favourite for the English Derby, but was thrown out of it on account of his owner’s death. He is by the Hermit out of Thorsday, by Thormanby out of Manganese by Birdcatcher,' out of Moonbeam by Tomboy. The Hermit by New? minster, out of Seclusion by Tadmor. It will thus be seen that Holy Friar is one of the most fashionably bred horses that ever left England. . Also Highlander, bred by Baron Rothschild, got by King Tom out of May Bloom by Newminster. This horse was sold as a yearling for 1500 guineas, and his brother at the last yearling sales was knocked down for £2572 10s. Mr Dougharty also bought a bay filly by King of the Forest out of Rupee, dam of Lac, Happy Thought and Sweet Note. According to Bell's Life in London this is a remarkably fine filly. A chesnut filly by Citadel out of Gemma by Womersley, and a filly bred by Lady Peel, and got by Pero Gomez. All these horses were‘shipped at once, and so may be expected every day. It would appear from the Oriental Sporting Magazine as if treble events were not bad things, it being reported about Tattersail’s (London) that some individual was lucky enough to pull off the treble, 2250 to 1, about Honeymoon for the Waterloo Cup, The Gunner for the Lincolnshire Handicap, and Camballo for the Two Thousand,
