[Per Press Agency.] Auckland, Sept 6. Father Paul, Catholic priest, Onehunga, had his furniture seized to-day in satisfaction of the education rate. The erection of a new museum is to be commenced immediately at a cost of £3377. Dunedin, September 6, At a meeting of the Standard Insurance Company co-day the report showed the gross income from all sources to he £27,529 17s 9d, and after deducting reinsurances, losses, cost of management, and all other charges, there remain to credit of profit and loss account for the half-year £13,072 Is lOd, together with £9945 19s lid to the credit of last halfyear, and £B7O, being the amount of rents and interest accrued up to the 31st December, will give a total of £23,888 Is 9d to the credit of this account, from which will have to be deducted £12,186, being the unexpired value of current policies, and £2OOO for prospective marine loss occurring during half-year, but not yet payable, which will leave a net balance of £9702 Is 9d available. The directors recommend that a dividend at the rate of 10 per cent per annum for the year ending 31st December last should be declared, and the amount carried to capital account. The report was adopted. The ceremony at the .Synagogue yesterday, on the occasion of the consecration of the new scroll of law, was a very grand affair. The building was crowded, and the singing by the choir is described as the best heard here in any church. The Rabbi preached an eloquent sermon in Hebrew, translating each paragraph. The amount collected for the building fund was £152.
