A covey of seven strong birds was seen at Seadown on Saturday last, and several have been seen lately in the direction of Otipua. Immense loss of time and patience is saved by purchasing your boots at Spensley’s. The Sale is now going on, and you can depend upon a good article. No profit this month. ' The Purchaser gets all the benefit. Note the address— Spensley’s Boot Store, Cashel and High streets,— [Advt.]

Many people do not know the reason why some descriptions of soap, when being used, cause the hands to smart and feel sore. It is simply owing to the imperfect knowledge of some soap boilers, who not being thoroughly acquainted with the ingredients thej are using, do not compound them in a scientific manner, or as is more commonly the case, that manufacturers either try to pass off a spurious adulterated article, or else by using an undue quantity of the cheapest commodities, make one of inferior quality. We are aware that the Star Brand Soap is made on the strictest principles of chemical affinity, and that every care is taken by the manufacturers to produce an article possessing the strongest abstergent properties. All persons, whether old colonists or new arrivals, should use the Star Brand Soap, as it is the best in this market. [Advt.] Local Industry. —Previous to delivery we yesterday saw at Messrs A, G. Howland’s manufactory, Cashel street, a Beaufort pole waggonette, made to the order of the Hon Geo. Buckley, being novel in so much that though a waggonette in under make it has still a barouche-like appearance, with side entrance, and easy riding, the advantage being that the capability for carrying is considerably increased, and the seven inside passengers can take or descend from their seats from the side path without the necessity of having the vehicle backed to the pathway. In wintry weather, or cold nights, the hood extension with curtains can be let down, so as to make the waggonette a close carriage, impervious to all weathers, completely enveloping the passengers. So far as the material and workmanship are concerned nothing better could be desired, as the wheels and body are composed of the best hickory and ash. The body rests on three elliptic springs, the inside trimmings being of the best buffalo leather, and the hood lined with good cloth of the best materials. The wheels and body are painted dark, picked out with light green, and one advantage we had forgotten to mention is, that the driver can work a powerful brake in the centre of the front, and immediately alongside his left foot, without in any way inconveniencing his fellow passenger. This waggonette —the first of its kind, we may mention, ever built in the colony—has been turned out in a manner most creditable to the builders, and will no doubt be the precursor of many of its kind. It should be mentioned that the trap is fitted with American patent axles, and an American eccentric patent lock.
